Happy Quilt Along Monday!

Those of you that are doing the Scrappy Celebration QAl should be jumping up and down with this week's blocks, I and J. Both are big pieces and easy piecing.

You may notice that many of the fabrics in the circle behind my block picture are disappearing. As I make more and more blocks, I am running out of fabrics. There are very few reds even left in the stack. This is also a reminder to me that I need to buy more reds. I have not used up all the reds in my stash but generally when I pull fabrics and work from a circle like this I have included some of my favs. I always include tons of light so I have choices and put away any I dont end up using.

I love making  nine patches so I thought would share a trick to strip piece matching 9- patches.

SC QAL nine patch

When sewing your strips together, cut a section of the light fabric off. If using the full 44" lenghth, cut off 1/3 of the strip. The strips shown above were of various lengths.

Strip piece 1 dark and 1 light. Add the light strip to the dark side and continue sewing the additional dark strip to the other light side.

Subcut strips the same measurement as your strip sets. The picture shown above makes 2 full 9 patches with a little leftover.

This method is best when making all matching 9-patches and helps with the math making sure you have the right qty of sections. I like to scrap it up and still use this method but just keep adding different fabrics as I go along. Try it out sometime.

I am having so much fun seeing all the quilts in the American Patchwork and Quilting QAL facebook group. How fun is this version from @monatyler.
